A Lavender Black Kite?!

Developing the brand identity for Black Kite Coffee has always felt like one of the hardest parts of our re-launch. How exactly to distil the complexity of a business into taglines, symbols and colours?! How to get across ideas of quality Nepali coffee and faith, female empowerment and opportunity, openness and compassion?

Well, it has certainly taken us a bit longer than we imagined to make significant in-roads on this particular part of the journey. Initially, we hired a young Nepali female designer, Suruchi. Suruchi was able to help us with initial ideas; she came up with what we hope will be a locally iconic ‘soaring eagle.’ Ultimately however, we needed an experienced steer from UK designer Jenny Hiley. Jenny has worked on projects as diverse as the Eurovision Song Contest, Cancer Research UK and the U.S - China Music Institute annual music festival. With her creativity and absolute professionalism, she has helped us get to the point of ‘initial launch.’ In the coming months, Jenny has kindly offered to help us develop and apply the brand across the whole business.

Needless to say, we love the way it has turned out so far; the Black Kite bird has already become a symbol of freedom and new beginnings in Him. The designs are with the printers as we write and fully branded coffee bags will be in our shop very soon!
